Q. Should the Government be concerned if the CPI rises to 5%?

The Govt set the MPC a target for CPI of 2% +/-1 therefore it believes inflation higher than 3% is potentially damaging for the economy.

It depends on inflation in other countries. If inflation in the UK is higher than elsewhere then UK goods will become uncompetitive leading to a fall in demand for UK exports.

If there is a fall in demand for Exports then there may be a deficit on the current account Balance of Payments. However this may be offset by a devaluation that is likely to occur

However if inflation is high there will be a devaluation of the exchange rate, This is something the govt wishes to avoid as it creates uncertainty amongst business.

Higher rates of inflation may cause menu costs, which means firms have to change price lists quite often. However this is not that significant when inflation is only 5%.

If inflation is caused by unsustainable economic growth then the boom may be followed by a recession . To keep inflation within target the Bank of England will have to increase interest rates, this causes problems because AD will fall causing lower growth.

Higher rates of inflation are disliked by business because it makes it more difficult to predict future costs. Therefore investment will be lower, Countries with lower inflation rates generally have poorer economic growth.

A high rate of inflation would make it more difficult to join the EURO, because it would breach the Maastricht criteria. If inflation in the UK was higher than Europe a single Monetary policy would be ineffective for the UK

If the inflation was world wide caused by an increase in the oil price, it may be necessary to revise the inflation target of 2.5% . The UK would not lose its competitive advantage because every country would have higher inflation. TO reduce inflation would cause stagflation (lower growth and lower prices)

Inflation may cause redistribution of income from savers to borrowers, although this will depend upon the rate of interest. E.g. if interest rate were 8% savers would still have a real interest rate of 3%
It depends on whether wages are keeping up with inflation. If wages were only increasing by 4% then real wages would be falling.

It is a festival of rural tradition, which originated from the desire to offer a tribute of grain to Our Lady Mother Mary to thank for the good harvest obtained. The festivities begin on Saturday to develop throughout the day of Sunday: parade of "canestrelli" sound of accordions, singing the starling, and finally parade of floats through the streets of the country. The chariots made with sheaves of grain, shall be arranged by the various districts with themes inspired by the whole history of the grain, from sowing to baking bread. For several years, one of these wagons will be set up by foreigners residing in the territory. British citizens in general, much like those participating in the festive atmosphere and be protagonists. All the streets are decorated with bunches of wheat. During the festivities you can enjoy typical cuisine of the local tradition.

Petritoli is a medieval village perched on a hilltop 358 metres above sea level in the Ascoli Piceno province of Le Marche in central Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Appenine mountain chain.

The village, its 2 hamlets Moregnano and Valmir, and the surrounding countryside have a population of 2500. There is a fine art to eating cheaply when discount travel is the goal. This is particularly true in expensive countries. Eating in restaurants quickly becomes ridiculously expensive and on many days you will simply have no choice but to eat that high priced meal. With a little planning, however, you can cut your food budget in half while still enjoying the local flavor.

It's always cheapest when you can cook for yourself rather than eating out, so your first line of defense is to stay somewhere that has a kitchen. If you don't have friends where you have ended up, one of the next best choices is a hostel. Not only are they cheap places to stay, but most of them have kitchens for guests to use. As an example, of the 40 or so hostels in Sydney, Australia, at least 14 of them have a kitchen that guests can use. Also, try to stay at a place that offers a free breakfast.

Grocery stores are your best friend. Even if you never actually cook a meal, you can still get all your breakfasts and lunches from there. Want porridge for breakfast? buy the instant kind then go to any coffee shop and ask for a cup of hot water. Fruits and veggies, some bread and cheese, and a local spread such as humus or tzatziki, makes an excellent plowman's lunch that is incredibly easy to carry and eat while you are traveling on that bus, or walking around the city. With saving so much money on two meals of the day, you won't feel nearly so guilty for splurging on a good meal at dinnertime every so often.

Grocery stores are also great places to grab precooked meals or microwavable meals. Even if your hostel doesn't have a kitchen, they will most likely have a microwave that you can use to heat something up. Huzzah! One more cheap meal. Maybe not the finest of cuisine, but sometimes quick and easy wins out over taste.

Just remember that foods that are cheap in your country aren't necessarily cheap in the country you are in. Peanut butter is cheaper than dirt in North America and seems to be worth it's weight in gold in the UK. Alternatively, I generally have to sell body parts to afford decent wine in Canada while in Argentina they practically give it away. So try to eat the foods that are cheapest where you are traveling.

In this day and age, the cheapest food in a country isn't necessarily the local ethnic food either. I can find cheaper Chinese food in Sydney than I can lamb chops. In fact, it is quite common that the food in out of the way places in ethnic neighborhoods will be cheap. Many times you will be lucky and it will be tasty too! If you do go this route, try to go where the neighborhood locals go; you have a much better chance of ending up in a place that has good inexpensive food.

If you don't want to cook for yourself, there are still cheap eating options. An obvious one, although not a particularly healthy one, is to eat from street vendors. Whether it is the 'street meat' sausages in Toronto, Canada, the fabled street kebabs of Oxford, England, or the innumerable sidewalk coffee shops with cheap pastries in Sydney, Australia, as long as you are not trying to buy from people selling in front of an event, your vendors are going to be cheaper than sitting down to a meal in a restaurant.

But sometimes on the road, you just gotta splurge. A particular bar is legend amongst backpackers, or you are just simply craving a steak. The thing here is try to never pay full price. Look for sales! Look for coupons! On any given day, in any given city in the modern western world, there are deals to be had.

If all else fails, pull out your trusty ISIC student card, (you do have one, right?). While not so useful in North America, they are worth their weight in gold in Europe and other destinations for more than just food.

Oxford: a great seat of learning, of celebration and rivalries and of much controversy. How better to ingest this varied history than by staying in college bed and breakfast accommodation in the centre of this ancient City.

Adorned with architecturally elegant colleges, libraries and bridges spanning the river Cherwell, the ancient University city of Oxford exudes a sense of settled accomplishment and tempered yet pioneering learning. Whilst this is what attracts visitors from far and wide to this ancient city, today some of the colleges are allowing guests to scratch a little deeper by offering bed and breakfast accommodation in some of the 39 bastions of academia and gothic masterpieces.

It is within the heart of this city that you can get a real sense of its long and chequered past. As the first British university, it is actually said to have spawned its long-term rival Cambridge, after two of its scholars were hanged for the murder of a local woman and the resulting dispute between town and university caused a group of scholars to flee to the fens and set up in an existing school on the Cam. It was another dispute with the town that almost led to its downfall with the University supporting the Royals rather than Parliament in the Civil War. In the end it was only saved by, of all people, Oliver Cromwell who rejected the Puritan calls for closure as its expression of intellectual thought was deemed 'dangerous to religious belief'. Since then the university has understandably avoided taking an official political position. The same cannot be said for its alumni which boasts 25 Prime Ministers, 25 other world leaders, 12 Saints and 20 Archbishops of Canterbury amongst its other famous writers, scientists and inventors.

And all would have appreciated the beauty and serenity of the town, whether it was walking in the 74 acres of The Parks next to the Cherwell (and maybe catching some First Class cricket for free); seeing a play at Sir Christopher Wren's Sheldonian theatre; taking one of the 8 million books off the 117 miles of shelves of the Bodleian Library; or just appreciating the finer details of one of Oxford's 38 Grade 1 listed buildings.

With the collegiate aspect of Oxford so important, there are fierce rivalries that exist whether its an architectural comparison of respective colleges or the perhaps more brazen rivalries on the sports field. The last of these to flare up was at the 2006 Rugby Cupper Final where the spectators got distracted from the game by a fight between the mascots, with the Pink Pembroke Panther and the St Peter's Squirrel having to be pulled apart. But all is forgotten by the time of the May Morning celebrations, where graduating students follow the tradition of jumping into the Cherwell - however low the water!

And why not be part of one of these historic colleges whilst visiting Oxford? You cannot escape the sense of history if staying in Balliol (possibly even in Harold Macmillan or Herbert Asquith's old room); nor can you avoid the peace and serenity of the beautiful quads at Keble; and fans of architecture and film will both appreciate the Palladian setting of the Golden Compass at Queens College.

The joy of waking up in one of these ancient colleges is hard to forget and this is why the Oxford bed and breakfast service is such a unique way of experiencing the city. You can literally become part of a college for your time there and sample the history first hand in this extraordinary City.

It rained a lot, as they Heathrow Airport on the left: (It was definitely great, from the madness separately at home anyway, so this trip I made sure that the places we have not seen it go before (with the exception of Harrod's - that's my bonus). I had a stopover in Los Angeles than 5 hawas a bit long, but I met a man from Australia who lived in the mountains 3 hours west of Sydney, so it was nice. On my flight from Los Angeles to Sydney I was in a huge plane with a second floor. I had window seats were to the end and on the long flight, a series of three, but the guy moved to my side, so again there was no one at my side. I've seen a few movies "Traveler's Wife" and two Australian films, "blessed" (a street youth) and can not remember the other. It was a good flightexcellent service. They give you a little snack pack cookies, chocolate M & M and other things ... mmmm ... the food was pretty good. I slept on and off. Finally arrived in Sydney ... a bit messy reality. First, the habits .... aaah ... also my visa is not all the right information, so I had to go to immigration to the right ... 10mn took it as so no big deal! So, what is strange is that you get your luggage, but leave before going through another line and have your luggageby X-ray ...

Vaci Utca is Budapest's only pedestrian street and can be found in District V (five). Anyone who loves to shop, shop, shop not to mention spend, spend, spend, will adore this street which is adorned with 19th century architecture. This long street starts from Vörösmarty quadrilateral and leads to the Great store Hall near FÅ'vám Tér.

If you're finding for something a diminutive up market, then Vaci Utca is where it's at - some have even compared it to London's Oxford Street! The celebrated avenue has long been a place where the rich and celebrated of Budapest enjoyed spending their money and in more modern years, tourists come here for the reduced price designer labels. Beware though; these designer items still have a hefty price tag attached.

Budapest's malls have proved popular with both locals and tourists alike. A lot of the malls are situated close to whether major intersections or metro stations allowing easy access to them. If you're staying in the city centre you're near two of the most popular malls; the Westend City Centre and Mammut Mall.

The Westend is located beside the Western Railway Station. This is in effect Central Europe's largest shopping mall. Hosting over 400 stores, a 14-screen cinema complex, and a huge selection of food areas, you'll be in effect impressed by this shopping centre.

Mammut Mall is located on the Buda side at Szena quadrilateral and houses over 300 shops. The mall is made up of two seven-story buildings. You'll find an entertainment centre and numerous restaurants and cafes here too. excellent for a family day out.

Other shopping malls in Budapest that are well worth a visit contain Duna Plaza, Mom Park, Arkad and Lurdy Haz.

Budapest is celebrated all over the world for its astounding markets. Some of these excellent markets are housed in grand store halls. Not only are they great places in which to see locals going about their daily business, but also offer high capability produce at cheap prices. all from souvenirs, to leather goods, clothes, fresh fruit and vegetables etc. Can be found on sale here.

The Central store Hall is the most popular of all the markets to be found in Budapest. It's the largest indoor store and is located in the 9th district. Many flock to this store to buy its world-renowned paprika!

The sheer size of the place alone will dumbfound you, not to mention the broad selection of stalls. Most stalls on the ground floor sell souvenirs, gifts and wine. You'll also find mouth-watering meats, fresh vegetables and fruit and celebrated cheese. If you need to take a break from all this bargaining, there are abundance of snack bars around.

Other excellent and celebrated markets in Budapest contain Ecseri flea market, Hunyadi Ter store (district Vi), Klauzal Ter store and Rakoczi ter store in district Vii.

Opening Hours:

Hungarian shops usually open between 10am and 6pm on weekdays and between 10am and 1pm on Saturday's.

Some shop have longer opening hours.

Be aware also that some smaller shop close if they are running errands. The lengths of these vary and can't be calculated. Look out for a sign saying "Azonnal Jövök" on the door. It's up to you whether you wait!

Currency: Hungarian forints (Huf).

Credit cards are widely accepted, so there's diminutive strangeness loading up on the plastic! Nevertheless, there's no harm in bringing cash on you, as cash is king when it comes to smaller shops and markets.
